Think Cheech Marin vs. Francis Suarez. I know there are exceptions; I just think in general the Hispanic culture of California tends to be more of the popular variety, while Florida's Hispanic population has a more pronounced/influential high culture. This may stem from the historical fact that most Hispanic migrants to California have been unskilled/uneducated laborers, while Florida has been a destination for well-educated/professional Hispanics. |

Some truth to this….I've been told and reminded by Cubans, and others, in Miami that they're "better" than the Mexicans I dealt with in CA (business owners v business workers)….they might have developed this impression from the wet foot dry foot immigration policy that favored them over everyone else up until a few years ago. Definitely more of a snooty factor, at least in SoFla, than I ever experienced in CA. Of course not every one in SoFla is better educated or a successful business owner (Marielitos) and I knew quite a few very successful Mexicans in SoCal. Florida is far more than just South Florida, folks. The obvious answer is California, as a greater percentage of its population overall is Hispanic/Latino. Maybe most are Mexican, but Mexico is no small country. |

I agree….Orlando is 32.7% Hispanic and Tampa is 28.4% Hispanic. Not all live in SoFla—see link below. Agree Mexico is a big country, but South America is a bigger and diversified continent. Caribbean is no slouch either with a combined population greater than California, though not all Latino. https://www.floridatrend.com/article...in-florida-map Quote: Originally Posted by Frustratedintelligence Florida is far more than just South Florida, folks. Gotta look at the OP... it's about the culture and influence, not population. The Spanish culture is so integrated in Florida. |

Whichever answer you all think it is, it will still be two different cultures. Mexican and Carribean culture are not alike at all. |
